Why Everyone is Raving About Giclee Fine Art Prints: Uncover the Secret!

In a sentence? You acquire stunning artwork, at a great price, that lasts a lifetime.

That's it really but if you'd like us to elaborate, we'd be happy to oblige...

But first things first… What exactly is a ‘Giclee Fine Art Print’.

Giclee is a French term meaning “to spray”, referring to how an inkjet printer works and how giclee prints are usually produced. These large format inkjet printers use small spraying devices that can both match colour and apply ink precisely, giving our artists the highest quality print of their original art.

To be able to make such a high-quality print, the camera or scanner used to capture the original artwork must be able to do so with a very high level of resolution.

To compare, most digital photos are recorded at a resolution of 72 DPI on the screen, or “dots per inch,” and the image file of an art print needs to be at least 300 DPI—because the more dots of colour that can be printed in a small area, the greater your final image quality. Think a pixelated image on your 1980s PAC Man video game vs 8k resolution.

So the 3 reasons to invest?

Resolution

No, not your New Year’s resolution, we’re sure you kept those...Right?

In this case, resolution is the dots of ink per square inch or in digital terms, the number of pixels per inch.

The more dots you have in a print and the finer they are, the more realistic your reproduction will appear. A standard inkjet printer may boast a high-resolution output, but a giclee printer combines a higher resolution with a finer spray resulting in a smoother and substantially more sophisticated final print.

Longevity

A giclee print will last 100 years or more without the degradation of inks or fading of colour.

Pixel Gallery only uses sustainably sourced paper and wood, water-based inks and no plastic, ensuring our Giclee Fine Art prints have 100% sustainable life cycle.

Price

If you are new to the world of art collecting, then a fine art giclee print is a great investment before committing to an expensive original piece.

At Pixel Gallery we print our fine art giclee prints on Hahnemühle German Etching paper, a white fine art paper made from 100% alpha cellulose which is characterised by its extraordinary velvety tactile feel and its fine, clearly defined felt structure.

The unique surface texture adds a very special touch to images, showcasing them in all their splendour with impressive three-dimensional effect and depth that makes them more akin to original works of art.

Final Thoughts – Giclee Print is a Great Investment

If you are new to the world of art collecting or not quite ready to spend thousands of dollars on an original painting, then purchasing a giclee print is a great entry point to a lifetime’s love affair with Art.
